ENGLISH VERSION

Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec, the second largest city in Canada and the 26th largest in the Americas. It is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city, and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard. It has a distinct four-season continental climate with warm to hot summers and cold snowy winters.

Historically the commercial capital of Canada, it was surpassed in population and economic strength by Toronto in the 1970s. It remains an important center of commerce, aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, culture, tourism, gaming, film and world affairs. In August 2015 the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Ranking placed Montreal 14th out of 140 cities. Montreal hosted the 1976 Summer Olympic Games. It is the only Canadian city to hold a Summer Olympics. Apart from that the city is home to the Canadian Grand Prix of Formula One held on a circuit on Île Notre-Dame. Montreal is also the home of ice hockey team Montreal Canadiens, the most successful club hockey team in North America with 24 Stanley Cup championships.

The 21st century has brought with it a revival of the city’s economic and cultural landscape. The construction of new residential skyscrapers, two super-hospitals (the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal and McGill University Health Centre), the creation of the Quartier des Spectacles, reconstruction of the Turcot Interchange, reconfiguration of the Decarie and Dorval interchanges, gentrification of Griffintown, subway line extensions and the purchase of new subway cars, the complete revitalization and expansion of Montreal-Trudeau International Airport are helping Montreal continue to grow.

FOREVER FLAWLESS STORE-Les Cours Mont-Royal

The Forever Flawless Store is located in Les Cours Mont-Royal an upscale shopping centre in Downtown Montreal, Quebec which was converted from the former Mount Royal Hotel. Designed by Ross and Macdonald, a prolific architectural firm in Montreal and across Canada, and completed in 1922, the Mount Royal Hotel was the largest of its kind in the British Empire, with 1,100 rooms. Erected on the site of Montreal High School at 1455 Peel Street, the construction of this building in the Beaux-Arts architectural style was part of a larger trend in the then-largest city of Canada to attract high-class tourists with luxurious edifices. Other famous buildings by Ross and Macdonald in Montreal include Holt Renfrew, the Montreal Neurological Institute, the downtown Eaton’s building (now Complexe les Ailes), the Dominion Square Building and Trinity Memorial Church in Westmount.

The interior was gutted and the exterior was cleaned and repaired in the late 1980s. The only internal remnant of the hotel is the ceiling of the big entrance lobby. This lobby has a huge chandelier taken from the Monte Carlo casino. The shopping area is organized around four large courts, hence the French name “Les Cours”. Under the main skylight there are six bird-human sculptures by the Inuit artist David Ruben Piqtoukun. The top of the building has several floors of luxury condos. They have separate elevators and entrances, set apart from those of the shopping center’s street doors and subway tunnels. In between the top condo levels and the mall at the base there are several floors of office space.

Les Cours Mont-Royal Shopping Centre is mainly composed of fashion retailers, with a few additional features and services including Montreal’s largest spa and a catwalk for fashion shows and other events.
